Chinese visas fall into the types of diplomatic visas, courtesy visas, public service visas and ordinary visas. Ordinary visas can be further classified as the following categories:

(1) L visa: Issued to those who intend to go to China as a tourist.

(2) M visas: Issued to those who intend to go to China for commercial and trade activities.

(3) F visa: Issued to those who intend to go to China for exchanges, visits, study tours and other activities.

(4) G visa: Issued to those who intend to transit through China.

(5) Q1 visa: Issued to those who are family members of Chinese citizens or of foreigners with Chinese permanent residence and intend to go to China for family reunion , or to those who intend to go to China for the purpose of foster care. The intended duration of stay in China exceeds 180 days. “Family members” refers to spouses, parents, sons, daughters, spouses of sons or daughters, brothers, sisters, grandparents, grandsons, granddaughters and parents-in-law.

(6) Q2 visa: Issued to those who intend to visit their relatives who are Chinese citizens residing in China or foreigners with permanent residence in China. The intended duration of stay in China is no more than 180 days.

(7) Z visa: Issued to those who intend to work in China.

(8) C visa: Issued to foreign crew members of means of international transportation, including aircraft, trains and ships, or motor vehicle drivers engaged in cross-border transport activities, or to the accompanying family members of the crew members of the above-mentioned ship.

(9) J1 visa: Issued to resident foreign journalists of foreign news organizations stationed in China. The intended duration of stay in China exceeds 180 days.

(10) J2 visa: Issued to foreign journalists who intend to go to China for short-term news coverage. The intended duration of stay in China is no more than 180 days.

(11) S1 visa: Issued to those who intend to go to China to visit the foreigners working or studying in China to whom they are spouses, parents, sons or daughters under the age of 18 or parents-in-law,or to those who intend to go to China for other private affairs. The intended duration of stay in China exceeds 180 days.

(12) S2 visa: Issued to those who intend to visit their family members who are foreigners working or studying in China, or to those who intend to go to China for other private matters. The intended duration of stay in China is no more than 180 days. “Family members” refers to spouses, parents, sons, daughters, spouses of sons or daughters, brothers, sisters, grandparents, grandsons, granddaughters and parents-in-law.

(13) X1 visa: Issued to those who intend to study in China for a period of more than 180 days.

(14) X2 visa: Issued to those who intend to study in China for a period of no more than 180 days.


Chinese Tourist Visa

Please note the tourist visa will usually be single or double entry. If you need to apply for a double entry visa, you will need to provide round air flight tickets booking for both entries or provide your original previous Chinese visa as supporting document. The length of stay for each entry is usually 30 days. You can ask for more than 30 days, if needed and if supported by documentation.

Documents Requirement:

1. Passport and a photocopy of the photo page

2. Passport size photo

3. A photocopy of your last Chinese visa required if you have been to China before

4. Application Form

5. An original and a copy of your permanent residence or work permit for the UK if you are not applying with an EU passport.

6. Air ticket and Hotel Reservation

7. Invitation letter from China( if you cannot provide Air Ticket and Hotel Reservation)Your invitation letter should include the following information, Please email us.

Chinese Business Visa

Please note that Business (M) visa will usually be single, double entry, Multi entry – 6/12/24 months.The length of stay for each entry is usually 30 days. You can ask for more than 30 days, if needed and supported by documentation.

Documents Requirement:

1. Passport and a photocopy of the photo page

2. Passport size photo

3. A photocopy of your last Chinese visa required if you have been to China before

4. Application Form

5. An original and a copy of your permanent residence or work permit for the UK if you are not applying with an EU passport.

6. The invitation letter from the business you will be visiting. (Please email us to get an invitation letter sample)

7. If you are applying for a multiple entry visa, you will need to have had at least two previous business visas. The embassy will also need photocopies of these previous visas. If the visas are in old passports, you need to send us the old original passports, plus photocopies of the visas and the photo pages of the old passport.

8. If you are Chinese original and now have a foreign passport, and if it is the first time you are applying for a visa, you need to send the original Chinese passport plus a photocopy of the data page of the passport. If you have had previous Chinese visas but they are in an old passport, you need to send us the old original passport and a photocopy of the data page, the photo of the previous Chinese visas.

Chinese Non-Business (Academic visit/ Conference )(F)

Please note that Business (F) visa will usually be single, double entry, Multi entry – 6/12/24 months. The length of stay for each entry is usually 30 days. You can ask for more than 30 days, if needed and if supported by documentation.

Family Visiting Chinese Residents

please note Q visa including Q1 visa – Single entry for stays of over 180 days; and Q2 visa – Single / Double/Multiple( 6/12/24 months) entry for stays of less than 180 days.

Q1: Issued to those who are family members of Chinese citizens or of foreigners with Chinese permanent residence and intend to go to China for a long-term family reunion, or to those who intend to go to China for the purposes of foster care (intended duration of stay in China exceeding 180 days). “Family members” refers to spouses, parents, sons, daughters, spouses of sons or daughters, brothers, sisters, grandparents, grandsons, granddaughters and parents-in-law.

If you are applying for a single entry visa with stay duration of more than 180 days, you will also need to send a legalised document showing how you are related e.g. marriage certificate to the inviting party. We can help with the legalisation.

Family Visiting Non-Chinese Residents

please note S visa including S1 visa – Single entry for stays of over 180 days; and S2 visa – Single / Double entry /Mutiple ( 6/12/24 months) for stays of less than 180 days.

S1: Issued to relatives of foreigners working or studying in China for the purpose of long-term visit, or to those who intend to visit China for other private reasons (intended duration of stay exceeding 180 days). ‘Relatives’ refer to spouses, parents, sons or daughters under the age of 18 years and parents-in-law.

S2: Issued to those wishing to visit family members that are foreigners working or studying in China, or to those who intend to go to China for other private reasons. The intended duration of stay in China is limited to no more than 180 days. “Family members” refers to spouses, parents, sons, daughters, spouses of sons or daughters, brothers, sisters, grandparents, grandsons, granddaughters and parents-in-law.

Documents Requirement:

1. Passport and a photocopy of the photo page

2. Passport size photo

3. A photocopy of your last Chinese visa required if you have been to China before

4. Application Form

5. An original and a copy of your permanent residence or work permit for the UK if you are not applying with an EU passport.

Chinese Work Visa

Please Note the Working visa “Z” is issued to those taking up a post or employment, or giving commercial performances, in China

Documents Requirement:

1. Passport and a photocopy of the photo page

2. Passport size photo

3. A photocopy of your last Chinese visa required if you have been to China before

4. Application Form

5. An original and a copy of your permanent residence or work permit for the UK if you are not applying with an EU passport.

6. Original invitation Letter of “Duly Authorized Unit” or “Confirmation Letter of Invitation issued by Chinese relevant units as well as the invitation letter from your employer in China

7. One of the following:

(1) Alien Employment License of the People’s Republic of China issued by the Chinese government authority for Human Resources and Social Security;

(2) Permit for Foreign Experts Working in China issued by the State Bureau of Foreign Experts;

(3) Letter of Invitation to Foreigners for Offshore Petroleum Operations in China issued by China National Offshore Oil Corporation;

(4) Registration certificate of the resident representative office of foreign (regional) enterprises issued by related administrative department of industry and commerce;

(5) An approval document for commercial performance issued by Chinese government authority for Cultural Affairs (only applicable to applicants for commercial performances in mainland China).

Chinese Study Visa

6. Original and photocopy of Admission Notice issued by the inviting entity in China e.g. from a school or university.

7. For X1 visas, the embassy require original and photocopy of Admission Notice issued by a school or other entities in China as well as Original and photocopy of “Visa Application for Study in China” (Form JW201 or Form JW202) issued by Chinese relevant authorities
For X2 visa, the embassy requires Original and photocopy of Admission Notice issued by a school or other entities in China.

Chinese Crew Visa

Please note the Crew visa “C” is issued to foreign crew members of aircraft, trains and ships, motor vehicle drivers engaged in cross-border transport activities, and also to the accompanying family members of the above-mentioned ships’crew members.

Documents Requirement:

1. Passport and a photocopy of the photo page

4. Application Form

5. An original and a copy of your permanent residence or work permit for the UK if you are not applying with an EU passport.

6. Related Certificate from China Crew members of foreign airways who perform duties on international flight operated by Chinese carriers under an exchange program should provide visa notification issued by an authorized unit in China.

7. Statement from local airline Related certificate(s) as provided for in the bilateral agreement from foreign airline, such as an official letter issued by their companies or corporations stating that they apply for a crew visa.

8. Crew ID

Chinese Journalist Visa

Please note the journalist visa including J1 and J2

J1: Issued to resident foreign journalists/media staff of foreign news organizations stationed in China. The intended duration of stay in China exceeds 180 days.

J2: Issued to foreign journalists/media staff on temporary news coverage missions. The intended duration of stay in China is limited to no more than 180 days.

Documents Requirement:

1. Passport and a photocopy of the photo page

2. Passport size photo

3. A photocopy of your last Chinese visa required if you have been to China before

4. Application Form

5. An original and a copy of your permanent residence or work permit for the UK if you are not applying with an EU passport.

6. Notification from Press Office of Chinese Embassy in London Journalist should contact the Press Office of Chinese Embassy in London to obtain permission.
